Access: Best reached by car via the Tomei Expressway to the Gotemba IC exit. Limited public transport: train to Gotemba Station, then taxi (~20 min). A FISCO license is required — first-timers can attend a seminar on-site on selected days (see notes).

Tsukuba Circuit

Shimotsuma, Ibaraki Prefecture

Tsukuba Circuit, operated by JASC (Japan Auto Sport Club), hosts some of Japan's most frequent open lapping sessions on two layouts: TC2000 (2.0 km full circuit) and TC1000 (1.0 km short course). Sessions run multiple times per week, making it one of the most accessible circuits for regular drivers near Tokyo.

Session classes: TC2000 and TC1000 sessions are split by lap-time performance bracket. Participants require a JASC license — available at the circuit. Hashirikai (走行会) club events also run regularly and are open to the public through individual club registration.
Tsukuba publishes its session schedule monthly on the JASC website. Specific dates could not be retrieved at time of writing — check the official calendar link above for the current schedule.

Access: Tsukuba Circuit is about 1.5 hours from central Tokyo by car. The nearest train access is Shimodate Station (Kanto Railway) with a taxi for the final stretch. Driving is strongly recommended.

Mobility Resort Motegi

Motegi, Tochigi Prefecture

Mobility Resort Motegi (formerly Twin Ring Motegi), operated by Honda, offers driving programs on its road course and South Course. The Shop Wa Run (ショップWa走) program groups participants by skill level for open circuit lapping. Driving lessons and sports driving schools run throughout the year. Sessions are closed during major race weekends.

Session classes: Shop Wa Run (open lapping, skill-grouped), Honda Driving Lesson (beginner/intermediate), Sports Driving School (South Course). A Motegi driving license or MCoM membership is required for most sessions — details on the booking page.
Motegi publishes specific session dates through their MCoM membership portal and the event calendar on their website. Avoid major race weekends (Super Taikyu Mar 21–22, Motegi 2&4 Apr 4–5, MotoGP Oct 2–4, Super GT Nov 7–8) when the circuit is closed to public driving.

Access: Approximately 2.5 hours from Tokyo via the Joban Expressway. The nearest JR station is Mito, with a bus or taxi for the final ~1 hour stretch. Driving is the practical choice for most visitors.

Session dates sourced from official circuit calendars. Fuji Speedway publishes a rolling PDF calendar updated several times per month. Tsukuba (JASC) and Motegi publish dates on their respective booking portals. Always verify before travelling — sessions can be cancelled due to weather or circuit closures.
